How new information can help the School regain flexibility. InsideISS does not only map escalation. It also maps what can happen when the system receives enough information, capacity or safety to change direction. The Regulation Loop is not one technique. It is a pattern in which one useful change creates conditions for another.
Notice → Add context → Reduce unnecessary protection → Create capacity → Increase choice
A recognizable moment
You notice that noise, hunger and time pressure are combining before the next meeting. You eat, close one source of input and decide which task can wait. The problem is not gone, but the School has more range.
After an argument, a familiar voice and a slower walk provide cues that the immediate threat has passed. Breathing and attention change gradually rather than on command.
Regulation also appears in excitement: you let the energy move through speech, laughter or action, then recover instead of treating activation itself as a mistake.
How the loop begins
The School notices what is happening. Not: Everything is fine. But: This is the state we are in. The Principal separates the first signal from the secondary reaction. The Secretary slows the story. Security receives updated context. The Body may reduce some activation. A Student feels more heard. The School now has slightly more capacity.
That extra capacity makes the next useful choice easier. The loop begins moving in a different direction.

Regulation is not suppression+
A Regulation Loop does not require making the original signal disappear. The Body may still hurt. The difficult conversation may still be necessary. A Student may still feel sad. The external problem may still exist. Regulation changes the School's ability to respond to the problem. It creates more options.
Different entry points+
Because the School is a system, regulation can begin in different places. BODY: sleep, movement, food, reduced stimulation, appropriate physical care. MIND: separating observation from prediction, reducing cognitive load, updating context. EMOTIONS: naming the Student, allowing the feeling, reducing internal conflict. CONNECTION: support, clarification, repair, boundaries. ENERGY: reducing demand, increasing recovery, changing activation. PURPOSE: choosing what matters now and what can wait.
No single doorway is always best.
A simple example+
The Body produces a strange sensation. The Secretary starts predicting danger. Security activates. The Principal notices the Alarm Loop. Instead of checking the sensation twenty more times, the School separates: What do we actually observe? from What are we predicting? Appropriate action is taken if needed. Monitoring decreases. Security receives less new threat information. Activation falls slightly.
The sensation becomes less dominant. The Secretary has less material for catastrophic interpretation. More choice returns. That is a Regulation Loop.
Regulation versus recovery+
Regulation can happen quickly or gradually. Recovery often needs time. A short practice may help the School change state without restoring all the capacity spent earlier. This distinction prevents a useful five-minute tool from being mistaken for a replacement for sleep, healthcare, boundaries or actual life changes.

The Regulation Loop is the process through which one useful change creates enough space for the next useful change.
