The Security Department is always working. It scans the environment, the Body, memories, relationships and internal signals for anything that might require attention. Most of this happens long before conscious thought. Its job is not comfort. Its job is protection. And because protection matters, Security is designed to react before perfect information is available.
Security would rather create a false alarm than miss a real fire.
A recognizable moment
A glass breaks behind you and your Body turns before you know what happened. Security began protecting the School before the Secretary completed the story.
At a crowded event, Security may keep tracking exits, noise and unfamiliar faces. When a trusted person arrives, those cues can help the department reduce its response without being ordered to calm down.
What Security does
Security asks a different question from the Secretary. The Secretary asks: What does this mean? Security asks: Could this be dangerous? If the answer might be yes, the system can change quickly. Attention narrows. Muscles prepare. Heart rate can rise. Breathing changes. Digestion may become less important. The mind begins searching for explanations. The whole School shifts toward protection.
This is not failure. It is an ancient and highly effective survival system.
Protection before certainty
Security does not wait for a complete investigation. A sudden sound in the dark may activate the system before anyone knows what caused it. That is useful when the sound is danger. It can be uncomfortable when the sound was only the wind. Modern life contains many situations where the same protective machinery becomes active without immediate physical danger.
A message from someone. A strange body sensation. An uncertain future. A memory. A difficult meeting tomorrow. Security responds to what the system interprets as meaningful, not only to physical threats.

Security and the Secretary+
Security and the Secretary can amplify each other. The Secretary creates an interpretation. Security responds. Security changes the state of the Body. The Secretary notices the new body state and creates another interpretation. The loop becomes stronger. This is why trying to solve everything only through thought does not always work. Sometimes the story is being produced by a School that is already activated.
When Security becomes sensitive+
A Security Department that has encountered repeated danger, uncertainty or overload may become more cautious. The threshold for sounding an alarm can become lower. More things are checked. More signals are noticed. Ambiguity feels more important. The system may begin protecting itself earlier than the present situation requires. That does not mean Security is defective.
It means Security has learned that vigilance may be useful. Learning can also be updated.
What helps+
Security learns through experience. A calm explanation can help, but words are only one source of information. The system also learns from a safer body state, predictable environments, rest, supportive relationships, successful experiences, movement, breathing, time and repeated moments in which the feared outcome does not occur. The Principal cannot simply order Security to stop.
The system needs evidence.
One sentence summary
The Security Department is not trying to make life difficult. It is trying to make sure the School survives.
