Feeling stuck

“I keep thinking about change, but nothing moves.”

Feeling stuck can happen when several parts of the School pull in different directions. Purpose sees a path. Security sees risk. A Student wants relief. The Secretary sees ten possible outcomes. Energy says capacity is limited. No single part is necessarily wrong. The School has a coordination problem.

Stuck does not always mean unwilling. It can mean several valid signals are competing.

A familiar moment

You have three possible next steps and keep researching all of them. Each new comparison promises clarity but makes the decision larger. The direction changes when you choose one reversible action—send a question, test a draft or book a short conversation—without pretending it settles everything.

Through the ISS lens

The Principal may wait for certainty. Security may wait for safety. The Secretary may keep collecting more information. A Student may fear loss. Another Student may want change immediately. The result can look like no decision. But internally, the School may be extremely busy.

The trap of solving the whole future

Feeling stuck often grows when the next step is treated as if it must solve everything. The School asks: What if I choose wrong? What happens in six months? What will everyone think? The decision becomes too large to hold. Purpose can reduce the scale. Not: What is the perfect answer? But: What is the next workable step that gives us better information?

What can help

Identify the competing voices. Check capacity. Separate reversible decisions from irreversible ones. Clarify what matters. Choose a small experiment where possible. Allow uncertainty to remain. The Principal does not need unanimous agreement. It needs enough information for the next direction.
