Rest is a period in which some forms of demand are reduced.
Inside the School
Rest can support recovery, but it is not identical to regulation. A School can be physically still while the Secretary, Students or Security remain highly active.
In everyday life
You lie down and scroll for forty minutes while the Secretary keeps switching topics. The Body is still, but the School continues receiving input and making decisions.
Another evening, ten quiet minutes by an open window feel more restorative than a longer break filled with alerts. The difference is not moral discipline; it is what the system was asked to process.
System connections under load
Rest reduces some forms of demand, while regulation and recovery may require more. ENERGY, BODY and MIND can each need different conditions. A useful direction starts by asking what is still working and what kind of demand could actually stop for a while.
Important nuance
The useful question is not only whether activity stopped, but whether the conditions of rest are actually helping the system restore flexibility. Connected paths: The Janitor · Recovery · Sleep · Why Rest Is Not the Same as Regulation
Rest removes demand; recovery and regulation describe what the School can do with that space.
