Physical signals

Physical signals are sensations and changes through which the Body communicates its current condition.

Physical signals are sensations and changes through which the Body communicates its current condition.

Inside the School

A heartbeat, muscle tension, warmth, hunger, fatigue, dizziness, stomach sensation or change in breathing can attract attention. The Secretary may then create a story about what the signal means.

In everyday life

Your heart beats harder after running for a bus. A few hours later it beats harder while you wait for an important reply. The sensation overlaps, but the context and the Secretary’s explanation are different.

You notice hunger only after becoming impatient in traffic. The Body had been communicating before the signal entered conscious awareness.

System connections under load

Physical signals are where BODY often enters the wider School. Security may increase attention, memory may supply an earlier experience and interpretation may add urgency. A useful direction is to describe the signal plainly, check context and respond without either dismissing it or letting prediction become the only evidence.

Important nuance

InsideISS separates signal from interpretation. The signal is real; the meaning may still require context, observation or medical evaluation when appropriate. Connected paths: The Secretary · Security Department · Anxiety · Alarm Loop · Signal vs Story

A physical signal is information from the Body, not automatically its own explanation.
